Job Description

Apply hands-on hardware engineering judgment to advanced engineering and AI research problems involving complex physical and electromechanical systems. This remote opportunity values practical experience in integration, verification, reliability, troubleshooting, manufacturing test, and field investigation. Role Overview

Contribute expertise that helps improve AI reasoning about complex systems, interfaces, verification and validation, reliability, manufacturing, and hardware failures. Projects emphasize real-world hardware development and production experience over purely theoretical systems knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply systems, integration, reliability, and test engineering expertise to technically complex hardware challenges.
  • Review system requirements, interfaces, integration plans, verification strategies, test procedures, qualification methods, reliability analyses, and manufacturing test workflows.
  • Analyze interactions across electrical, mechanical, firmware and software, thermal, controls, and manufacturing domains.
  • Evaluate the technical soundness and practical feasibility of engineering solutions, testing strategies, troubleshooting methods, and system-level decisions.
  • Diagnose integration failures, including root causes, interface problems, design deficiencies, reliability risks, manufacturing defects, and test-coverage gaps.
  • Develop or review engineering problems, reference solutions, test cases, verification criteria, failure analyses, and technical documentation.
  • Provide clear technical feedback grounded in prototype bring-up, verification and validation, qualification, environmental and reliability testing, production test, and field-failure investigation.
Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of professional systems, integration, reliability, or test engineering experience, including at least 3 years of recent hands-on work in hardware integration, test, validation, qualification, failure analysis, manufacturing test, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience as a responsible engineer for complex physical systems or hardware products, with ownership across meaningful lifecycle stages from requirements and interface definition through integration, verification, qualification, production readiness, and field support.
  • Deep expertise in systems engineering and requirements or verification and validation, hardware integration and test, reliability engineering and failure analysis, or manufacturing and production test engineering.
  • Practical command of applicable methods including requirements traceability, interface management, test planning, FMEA or FMECA, fault isolation, root-cause analysis, reliability, qualification, environmental testing, design-for-test, manufacturing yield, and system-level failure modes.
  • Extensive experience integrating, instrumenting, testing, debugging, and characterizing physical hardware using relevant laboratory equipment, data-acquisition systems, automated test infrastructure, environmental test equipment, diagnostic tools, and structured failure-analysis methods.
  • Experience validating hardware in product or manufacturing environments, with the ability to explain system decisions, integration trade-offs, test results, root causes, and failure mechanisms.
Preferred Background

Experience at organizations that design, build, integrate, test, and manufacture complex hardware systems is strongly preferred. Relevant sectors include aerospace and defense, space, automotive and EV, semiconductors, consumer electronics and computing, drones, eVTOL and robotics, industrial and energy, and medical devices. Candidates from comparable hardware-focused organizations are encouraged to apply.

Work Terms
  • Remote, hourly engagement with flexible engagement structures.
Compensation

$100 to $120 per hour.

How to Apply

Apply if your hands-on experience aligns with complex hardware systems, integration, testing, reliability, manufacturing, or failure analysis, including experience gained at comparable hardware-focused organizations.
